In November 2023, Mexico City police officer Arizbeth Dionisio Ambrosio was promoted after breastfeeding a four-month-old baby who had reportedly gone without food for about 48 hours following the devastation caused by Hurricane Otis.
Hurricane Otis struck Acapulco on 25 October 2023 as a Category 5 hurricane, leaving communities struggling with shortages of food and other essential supplies.
Ambrosio, a mother of two who was still breastfeeding her own child, had been deployed to Acapulco for relief and debris-clearing operations.
While on duty, she heard a baby crying and approached the child’s mother, who reportedly explained that her four-month-old son had not eaten for two days because no infant formula was available.

With the mother’s permission, Ambrosio breastfed the baby, who reportedly calmed shortly afterwards.
