Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed a suspected terrorist in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, while military airstrikes reportedly targeted a terrorist hideout in Yankuzo community, Tsafe LGA, killing and wounding several fighters.
The troops were conducting operations around the Galadi axis when they reportedly spotted suspected terrorists riding motorcycles and attempting to cross the road. The soldiers engaged them, killing one suspect while others fled.
The deceased was reportedly wearing a woodland camouflage vest beneath his kaftan. Photos recovered from his phone allegedly showed him dressed in camouflage and holding a PKT machine gun.
The troops also recovered four mobile phones and N30,350 in cash from the scene.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to disrupt terrorist and bandit activities across the North-West. The military commended the troops for their alertness and swift response.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma reportedly conducted airstrikes against suspected terrorist positions in Yankuzo community, Tsafe Local Government Area, on the evening of September 7, 2026. The aerial operation involved five military aircraft, according to local sources.
Several fighters were reportedly killed or wounded in the strikes, although the exact casualty figure could not be independently verified.

One of those reportedly killed was identified as Isiya Gurgu, described by sources as a close associate of bandit leader Musa Commander, who was reportedly linked to the Ado Aleru network.
Sources further alleged that Musa Commander operated with the network across communities including Tsamiya and other settlements in the area.
The air operation was reportedly conducted with measures intended to minimise civilian casualties, with the strikes focused on individuals suspected of carrying weapons or wearing military-style clothing.
Yankuzo has reportedly remained a stronghold for armed groups linked to the Ado Aleru network, with residents facing persistent threats from armed groups operating in surrounding communities.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Nigerian Army, 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, said the Nigerian Air Force was the appropriate authority to comment on the operation.
The spokesman for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, also said the operation might have been conducted by the Air Force.
