The Nigerian Army has announced the redeployment of several senior officers to key command, operational and staff positions as part of measures to strengthen operational effectiveness and enhance national security.
The redeployments, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, affect major formations and institutions across the Service, with particular attention to operational theatres and strategic appointments.
Major General IA Ajose has been moved from the Department of Army Operations at Army Headquarters to the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, as Theatre Commander.
His predecessor, Major General AE Abubakar, has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research.
Other major appointments include Major General RT Utsaha, who moves from the Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to DHQ Garrison as Commander, while Major General AM Alechenu moves from DHQ Garrison to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.
Major General AM Umar has been appointed Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, moving from the Department of Civil-Military Affairs, while Major General UM Alkali moves from the Army War College Nigeria to the Department of Civil-Military Affairs.
Major General GS Muhammed moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General, while Major General JE Osifo moves from the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation to the Military Pension Board as Chairman.
At the operational level, Brigadier General MS Adamu has been appointed Commander of the newly established 8 Brigade, while Brigadier General MS Sule moves from Operation ENDURING PEACE to 27 Task Force Brigade as Commander.
Brigadier General I Sule moves from the Directorate of Recruitment Management to 6 Division Garrison as Commander, while Brigadier General E Azenda moves from the Land Forces Simulation Centre to 2 Division Garrison as Commander.
The Army said the redeployments are intended to position officers with the appropriate experience and expertise in critical command and staff appointments in line with Nigeria’s evolving security environment.
The Chief of Army Staff charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them through professional leadership, operational innovation and commitment to the constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Nigerian Army said it would continue to strengthen its leadership and force employment framework to improve operational outcomes, joint and inter-agency coordination, and its capacity to respond to emerging security threats.
