The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has called on Nigerians to strengthen national unity, sustain faith and support the Armed Forces as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Musa made the call at an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking the anniversary.
In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the service was themed “Anchored on Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity.”

The service brought together senior government officials, Christian faithful, members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries.
The Defence Minister, who delivered the first Scripture reading, linked national security with Nigeria’s pursuit of peace, cohesion and shared prosperity.
“As we mark 66 years of our nationhood, our hope for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria remains unshakeable. Security is not merely an operational task; it is the fundamental foundation upon which national unity and shared prosperity are built.”
Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to protecting the country’s sovereignty and restoring lasting peace across the country, while urging citizens to support personnel serving on the frontlines.
“I urge all Nigerians to remain steadfast, support our men and women in uniform, and unite in faith as we build a nation anchored on divine stability.”
The service was attended by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Service Chiefs; members of the diplomatic community; and senior Christian clergy.
In his remarks, Akpabio offered prayers for the nation and emphasised the importance of harmony and collective national effort towards sustainable peace.
Akume, who delivered the vote of thanks, also stressed the importance of democratic stability as Nigeria approaches future civic milestones.
“As we look toward the 2027 elections ahead, let us remember that democracy is sustained by peace and unity,” he said.
The inter-denominational service concluded with the ceremonial cutting of the 66th Independence Anniversary cake by the Defence Minister and other dignitaries.
