The family of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has announced his death at the age of 77.
In a statement issued on behalf of the family by Hon. Abubakar Ibrahim Idris, the family said the former governor died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in London, United Kingdom, after a brief illness.
“With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah (SWT), the family of His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris (Ibro), former Executive Governor of Kogi State, 2003-2012, announces his passing,” the statement said.
According to the family, Idris was born in 1949 in Idah, Kogi State, and was a renowned businessman and statesman who served Kogi State for nearly nine years.

The family said the late former governor is survived by his children, grandchildren and many relatives.
It added that details of the funeral rites would be made public in accordance with Islamic injunctions once his remains arrive in Nigeria for burial.
The family expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the life of the former governor and called on the public to remember him in their prayers.
Idris, popularly known as “Ibro,” governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
