The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has called on political and military leaders of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, to strengthen the ECOWAS Standby Force and ensure its operational readiness and rapid deployment against terrorism, insurgency and other transnational security threats.
Vice Admiral Abbas made the call while receiving the Chief of Staff of the ECOWAS Standby Force, Brigadier General Sheikh Sulaiman Massaquoi, who paid a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

The CNS stressed that the growing interconnectedness of security challenges across Africa requires stronger regional cooperation, noting that no country can effectively tackle the threats in isolation.
He also called for enhanced maritime cooperation and greater participation of African militaries in regional security initiatives.
