Major General Raymond Terungwa Utsaha has assumed command of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Garrison, pledging to consolidate existing gains while driving continuity, professionalism and relentless improvement across the formation.
Maj Gen Utsaha took over from Major General Alechenu Mike Alechenu during a handing and taking-over ceremony held on 18 September 2026 at Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja.
Speaking at the ceremony, the new Commander expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead the Garrison and pledged to build on the achievements recorded by his predecessor.
He identified continuity, consolidation and relentless improvement as key priorities, while emphasising teamwork, professionalism and collective responsibility in advancing the Garrison’s effectiveness.

The new Commander disclosed that he had received comprehensive briefings on the Garrison and would engage with its various cadres, cells and units to gain a deeper understanding of their responsibilities and challenges.
He assured personnel that their individual contributions would remain critical to the overall success of the Garrison and called for continued dedication to duty.
The outgoing Commander, Maj Gen Alechenu, expressed appreciation to God and personnel for their support and dedication throughout his tenure. He congratulated his successor and expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership.
Maj Gen Alechenu also urged personnel to extend the same level of cooperation and support to the new Commander, noting that changes in leadership are an integral part of military service.
The ceremony featured the signing of the handing and taking-over notes, presentation of the command flag and group photographs.
